We are still waiting to hear from the UFC about Anthony's TUF 9 tryout. Paper applications can be turned in up till the 27th, so we are assuming we will know something a few weeks after that.

Just got a better video of Anthony's first MMA fight at IFC Warriors Challenge. We will also be adding more video from Chicago and the fights from Boxing for Fitness Fight Night later this week.

11/02/08 Ultimate Fighter 9 News

StandAlone MMA is proud to announce that Anthony Fernandez passed all three rounds of The Ultimate Fighter 9 tryouts in Chicago. Unfortunately, Josh Hinkle seperated two ribs in the first round and was unable to continue. A reported 730 people tried out this year. The first round was a grappling match, where Anthony submitted his guy twice in 60 seconds! This eliminated the field to 250 people. Next was a striking round with Thai pads, bringing the number of contestants to around 70. Finally, there was an interview phase with the producers of the show and the UFC.

StandAlone MMA is now awaiting word from the UFC whether he made the show. We should know in less than two weeks. Below is a video of Anthony during different phases of the tryout. Enjoy!

10/20/08 Raising Funds for StandAlone at Lasalles!

Lasalles will be hosting a fundraising night this
Wednesday in honor of StandAlone MMA. All proceeds
will be donated to getting Anthony Fernandez and Josh Hinkle to The Ultimate Fighter Tryouts in Chicago on Monday the 27th. There will be drink specials starting at 9:00pm for anyone wearing a StandAlone shirt. I even hear a few bartenders are donating their tips from the night towards the trip.

9/26/08 The Ultimate Fighter

StandAlone MMA is pleased to announce that Anthony Fernandez and Josh Hinkle will be trying out for The Ultimate Fighter 9 in Chicago, IL on October 27th. This season will feature the US against the UK in both 170lb and 185lb divisions. We would also like to welcome Josh

8/17/08 Fight Results and New Schedule

First off, we would like to thank everyone that made it out to the IFC Warriors's
Challenge 23. It was a great show that resulted in 3 wins and 1 loss for

As most of you know, a new schedule will be starting August 25th. We have added a new Mixed Martial Arts class to the schedule which can be found here:

Mark Smith will still be the instructor but will be under the tutelage of Torregosa. Soon, StandAlone will be the only school in the area offering BJJ from a black belt.

Cedric Schwyzer vs Nafi Vanisi

"Started out the nights action with Schwyzer taking down and controlling position from top virtually the entire fight. To his credit, Vanisi proved to be a tough competitor to finish, escaping numerous rear naked choke attempts, a deep triangle, and an armbar. At the end of the three rounds, the judges scored Schwyzer the winner by unanimous decision, no doubt due to his control of the fight and numerous attempts to finish."

Anthony Fernandez vs David Marshall

"Anthony Fernandez would fight a second time this night, volunteering to fill in for Shane Wiltse who was a no show. He would face David Marshall despite being 10 pounds lighter. Fernandez again came out strong, securing an early take down without taking damage and looking to establish a ground and pound from top, but Marshall displayed a crafty bottom game by securing a deep triangle choke from guard. Fernandez would struggle for a while, attempting to roll, muscle, even slam his way out of the hold, but Marshall wouldn't let up, cinching the hold tighter each time Fernandez attempted an escape. Fernandez would eventually tap in the first round, giving Marshall the win.

Jiu-Jitsu seminar with David Camarillo July 12th
from 2:00-4:00pm. David is a world renowned black
belt in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has trained and

Every Friday Muay Thai class will include open sparring
for anyone that wants to challenge themselves a little
bit more. Sparring is not required on Fridays and regular class will continue on the mats.

5/11/08 Wrestling Camp

StandAlone MMA is pleased to announce a off season
wrestling camp. This eight week program starts June 16th and runs until August 8th. Classes will be held Mon, Wed, and Fri from 3:15 till 5:00pm. This class is open to all ages and skill levels.

This camp is only $100 for the entire summer.

Anthony Fernandez won his first MMA fight with a
KO in Round 1 at 1:47 against Anthony Alves from Team Voodoo. We will be adding pictures and videos of the fight once we get them from the IFC.

Glen Cordoza will be fighting at the upcoming Gladiator Challenge in San Francisco March 15th. Jason Pietz was also scheduled to fight but had to drop out due to injury.

11/21/07 StandAlone Fight Night Cancelled                         


Unfortunately, StandAlone MMA was forced to cancel the Dec 1st. event due to regulatory issue with the California
State Athletic.                                                          


We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused. StandAlone is currently seeking the proper licensing, with the hope of running an event by
February.
